Reporting from a short trip to Troodos today. After watching the weather forecast for days, I finally got a bit of good news when I saw that snowfall is finally forecasted and we hit the road today around lunchtime.
We stopped in Platres, it was raining all the way from Paphos up to Platres and there was not a single soul in sight. Most restaurants were closed up so we bundled up to a small cafe for a quick sandwich before making our way to the Troodos Square and Olympus. It was damn freezing, around 3C by the time we got to Platres and as soon as we headed up towards the mountains it came down to 0C.
Unfortunately we didn’t make it that far as it started snowing heavily and closer to the Troodos village, the road got so bad that it was impossible to steer the car. A few cars ahead of us had the same problem and started doing a U-turn heading back down.
Not the sort of trip I was hoping for, but we were pretty happy stopping alongside the road and taking some snowy photos before heading back. I will have to probably wait until January when there is more snow, the roads are properly maintained and more suitable for any cars, not just 4x4s.
The weather conditions literally change kilometer by kilometer, so these extreme conditions really sneaked up on us and we were not prepared.

See you in January, snow in Cyprus!
