Paphos in Cyprus is a place close to my heart – I have lived there for 6.5 years!

It offers the perfect combination of ancient history, natural beauty, and plenty of activities to keep you busy for weeks.

If you’re staying in Paphos for a holiday and want to see what you can explore nearby, this article will answer all of your questions!

Best Time to Visit Paphos

The best time to visit Paphos is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) when the weather is pleasant and the temperatures are moderate.

During these seasons, you can enjoy outdoor activities, sightseeing, and beach visits without the intense summer heat.

The springtime brings blooming flowers and lush landscapes, while autumn offers warm sea temperatures and fewer crowds, making it an ideal time for a relaxing and enjoyable vacation.

Spring is by far my favourite time on the island!

Things to Do Near Paphos: Daytime Adventures

1. Historical Sites

Paphos archaeological park is packed with ancient ruins and historical treasures that are definitely worth exploring, especially if the weather is mild enough!

With centuries of history, this place offers you a chance to experience breathtaking mosaics and even an ancient amphitheater.

Majority of the park is accessible to prams, and small kids will love to visit too. Plus, you get to enjoy beautiful sea views at the same time.

Tombs of the Kings, is another impressive historical site, on the outskirts of the town. It’s a necropolis from the 4th century BC, burial sites intended for high-ranking officials and aristocrats (not kings as the name suggests).

The site is also quite big, so bring water with you if you plan to explore in the summer.

At one end of Paphos harbor, you’ll find Paphos Castle, an old fortress with a fascinating history. Initially built as a Byzantine fort to protect against pirate attacks, it was later rebuilt by the Ottomans.

The castle offers picturesque views over the sea and harbor, making it a perfect spot for history buffs and photographers alike.

1. Wine Tasting Tours

Wine production has a long history in Cyprus, some claim that Cypriots were the oldest wine makers in the world!

Fikardos Winery, one of the most renowned family-owned wineries in the region, also provides tastings for visitors, and is more conveniently located on the edge of the town, if you don’t want to drive too far.
